1 - Download the Asus Firmware utility installation restoration tool from attachments.
2 - Download the attached custom DD-WRT firmware. I've renamed the *.bin file to *.trx for use with the WL330gE Restoration tool.
3 - Install the Asus Firmware utility program.
4 - Statically set your computer to the address of 192.168.1.20/255.255.255.0.
5 - Connect your computer ethernet cable to the WL-330gE ethernet port.
6 - unplug the power from the router.
5 - While hold down the reset button on the router plug the power back in and wait until the power light on the router does a slow blink. This is the router indication that it is in recovery mode.
6 - while continuing to hold down the reset button open the Asus Firmware restoration program and specificallly open the attached firmware file.
7 - Upload new DD-WRT firmware file to the router.
8 - It'll say its done when complete
9 - Restore DHCP on your computer
9 - Do a repair or disable/enable of your network interface.
10- Ping 192.168.1.1 - the response to this ping is indicatory that you have successfully updated your firmware to the custom mini DD-WRT firmware.
11 - go the the web interface of the DD-WRT application - http://192.168.1.1
12 - change your password.
There are a couple of "gotchas" that you need to be aware of. Note that you can restore the orignal Asus Firmware at any time.
Once that the WL330gE is running DD-WRT you may see that you are unable to find the wireless network. This is relating to having only one ethernet port. The default settings cause the wireless interface to the the routers WAN port. To fix:
1 - go to setup/networking/port setup and set WAN port assignment to "disabled". Once applied you will see the wireless network
2 - set up your wireless network
If you want to use the ethernet port as a WAN port do the following:
1 - connect to wireless network and go to setup/networking/port setup. Sent the WAN port assignment to "ETH0". Once these settings are applied you can continue to configure your router via the wireless network. The ethernet port is now the routers WAN port.
